The Wynne Prize is the oldest competition run by the Art Gallery Of NSW with it’s first awarding in 1897. The Wynne has one of the oddest requirements in the entire art world. According to the bequest of the late Richard Wynne the annual prize should be for the best landscape painting or figure sculpture submitted in competition. In recent years most winners have been abstract paintings It is held each year in conjunction with the other great bequest prizes, the Archibald and the Sulman, usually in the first half of the year. The Wynne Prize is worth $15,000.
