Viscosity

Viscosity is the measure of resistance of flow or movement in regards to a fluid. When referred to in art terms Viscosity often refers to paint and painting mediums.

Sometimes when painting, to create various painting effects its good to be able to change the viscosity of a paint, many paint manufacturers product painting mediums that allow you to do this. Often called, Flow Medium, or Viscosity Medium.

Art Making Tip: Increasing a paint viscosity, thus increasing its resistance to movement can allow an artist to create wonderfully defined consistent brush marks over a long brush stroke.

Art Maketing Tip: Using a transparent or semi transparent paint mixed with a viscosity medium mixed in will allow you greater more consistent control of the color intensity.
