Venetian Red

A deep red earth color originally mined at a quarry near Venice. Now generally replaced by a deep red shade of synthetic iron oxide as the original source is too small to meet world demand for this beautiful color favoured by the old masters for making the soft reds in shadows or as a base for deep violets.

Blockx and at least one other manufacturer still off the original pigment for sale.
