Tusche is an inky black liquid that is made from the same greasy substances in lithographic crayons. It is used for various effects when creating artwork on the lithographic stone. Thus solid blacks, or pen like or brush effects can be obtained easily.
Tusche can also be used in serigraphy (screen printing) where it’s greasy nature allows the drawing of a design and then painting over the screen a water based glue to obtain the stencil. Stencils made this way have an immediacy that stems from direct application that is quite different to the modern photographic reproduction methods often employed.
