Tablet

An input device for the computer it consists of an ‘active’ flat surface over which an electronic pen is drawn. This pen leaves no mark on the ‘active’ surface but instead a variety of marks and lines appear on the monitor screen. This is disconcerting at first, but the mind soon adapts and it after a while it feels quite natural. A program like Painter offers a wide variety of familiar surface appearances and the look of pencil on grainy paper can make these drawings look very traditional. Just as easily the drawing can produce experimental effects that are purely digital in appearance. The most commonly available tablet for the artist is the Wacom available in several sizes that suit all budgets.
