Stipple

Stipple, or Stippling is a drawing technique done effectively by a tapping motion; where by the artist place multiple dots on the paper.

Stipple is used a lot in black and white pen or ink illustrations as it allows the artist to create tone that can then be effectively reproduced in print using only black ink on white paper. Each dot is solid black ink, so the more dots in one area the darker the tone, the less dots, the light the tone.
