A mechanical device that fires small metal staples into materials, usually for the attachment of paper or fabrics to wood. An essential tool for the artist whether for putting drawings on the wall in an exhibition, or for stretching canvas prior to painting, it is an all purpose tool hard to do with out. When used for stretching canvas it is used in one hand while the other hand grips the canvas in a pair of canvas pliers. Most art supply stores sell staple guns but a wider range is usually available in hardware stores especially of heavier duty staple guns. It is best to get a gun that uses Arrow brand staples as these are available everywhere while other brands may be hard to get in some areas.
