Sepia

The ink of the Cuttlefish used as an ink by artists from ancient times. An obsolete color that survives as a name, although it is doubtful that the genuine ink can be found anywhere. A dark brownish black color that tended to fade but was well liked by printmakers because of its warmth. These days it is replaced by more permanent mixtures of brown and black and where found as a paint tends to be ivory back with burnt umber.
