Raw Umber

A cool greenish brown pigment. It is available in a wide range of shades from darker and browner to lighter and greener. Artists tend to value the greener shades more than the browner. Raw Umber came to prominence as an Italian pigment and it is named by the Italian word for shadow or darkness. These days Umber is still produced in large quantities in Italy, but the best pigment comes from Cyprus
