Posterisation

A screen printing process, now also achievable in photoshop in which colors and tones are simplified to a small number of seperate areas of the same color or tone. There may be as few as 3 levels, or as many as 10 or more. 3 to 6 often make the most dramatic results. The process gets its name because it was developed for screen prints in the 1960’s and is intimately associated with images by Andy Warhol and the pop artists of the Jimmy Hendrix and Che Guevarra generation.
