Cheap opaque paints formerly used in large quantities by schools, ticket-writers, and other commercial artists . Available in both powder form (for mixing with water) and as hard pans these simple water-based paints have been largely supplanted by acrylics and the higher quality gouaches.
They do survive in painting boxes made for children, often in frustratingly hard cakes with weak colors. In most instances the kids are better off with acrylics in tubes or bottles.
