The main orange color for the last 4,000 years has been Burnt Sienna, useful in all media from watercolor to oil painting all other oranges were mixtures or the product of glazing red over yellow. Introduced in 1797 Chrome Orange began a series of discoveries of various orange pigments. Only one has stood up to the test of time well for artists use and that is Cadmium Orange first developed in the 19th century. It is absolutely permanent, suitable for all media and is brighter than any orange mixed on the palette. It is the perfect bright complement to the beautiful and supremely useful Burnt Sienna.
