Oil Pastel

An Oil Pastel is considered a Drawing Material. Oil pastels are made from finely ground pigment, mixed with Waxes, Vegetable Gum, Vegetable Oils or Animal Fats.

An oil pastel comes in stick form they look similar to Crayons. Also see: Pastels.

Art Making Tip: Oil Pastels repel water and can be used along with paints to create interesting artistic effect. For example use an oil pastel to create a rubbing on a large sheet of paper, then apply a wash of color over the top. The paint will not effect the areas touched by the oil pastel.
