Mineral turpentine

Mineral Turpentine is a petroleum distillate. Although not liked by artists due to its less likable smell, it is no less good as a paint thinner than Gum Turps, and has the advantage of lower price, does not deteriorate with age, is a little less toxic (although still don’t wash hands in it and keep the studio well ventilated), causes less allergic reactions in sensitive people, and leaves no sticky residue in containers. It cannot however be used in mixtures containing Damar varnish. Always use latex gloves when cleaning up with turps.
