A Lino Cut is a form of printmaking where the artist uses fine wood carving tools to cut a relief block from a sheet of linoleum. (Linoleum is a floor covering often called Lino.)
Lino cuts produce bold and expressive prints, and give a final result similar to that of a woodblock print. Lino is obviously much easier to carve though, and it for this reason that many printmakers prefer lino cuts.
To produce a print from the finished relief an ink roller is used to apply a thin layer of ink or paint to the raised surface, it is then over turned on top of a sheet of paper and rolled again with a clean ink roller.
