The ability to visualise that which is not there, to create mental images of that which has never been experienced. It is the serious and deeply creative faculty which is the best friend and tool of the artist. It is the power to deconstruct the things that are known and reassemble them in ways that are new. It is the one tool that is with you always and works while you sleep, allowing the waking moments to be productive. It is the one thing that sets humankind apart from all other animals and the harnessing of it for the purposes of making art is the only thing that makes an artist different from someone who is not an artist. It is the power to see and to fly. Imagination when married to poetry is the essence of art.
