Drawing the human figure, usually nude, but sometimes clothed. Figure drawing or life drawing remains central to the teaching of art as it is the most difficult yet at the same time most rewarding of all subjects to draw. People who aren’t so concerned about people do other things like landscape, but people people draw the figure and portrait. The study of the figure is never ending. Look into Leonardo’s drawings and you see the same searching that we all do, the same sense of wonder, the same need to explore the human form. Teaching a life drawing class is exciting precisely because that poetic discovery apparent in drawing the figure is a never ending joy to experience and witness.
